Piels Real Draft 12 Oz Can

The Piels Real Draft Premium Draft 12 oz can represents a memorable era for Piel Bros., a brewery originally founded in the East New York section of Brooklyn. As regional breweries faced increasing pressure from national competitors, Piel Bros. introduced their "Real Draft" lineup in packaging marketed to capture the essence of a freshly tapped keg.

Promoted as a "Keg Can," the design features classic woodgrain-style graphics alongside the signature bold red Piels logo. A major marketing centerpiece printed on the label was the assertion that it offered genuine draft beer that required no refrigeration until ready for use. The brand reinforced this product line with memorable advertising campaigns, including television commercials that revived the beloved animated brewer personas Bert and Harry Piel, voiced by the legendary radio comedy team of Bob and Ray.

For collectors of East Coast breweriana, this can stands as a prominent piece of New York brewing history from the Liberty Avenue brewery's heyday. Several variations of the can exist among collectors, reflecting subtle differences in manufacturer seam markings, metal composition, and brewery location text that accompanied the company's regional expansion and plant transitions.
