Pikes Peak Ale 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Pueblo's Pikes Peak Ale Can

The Pikes Peak Ale 12 oz tab top can is a notable piece of Rocky Mountain breweriana produced by The Walter Brewing Company of Pueblo, Colorado. Founded in 1889 by Martin Walter, the brewery grew into one of southern Colorado's premier industrial landmarks and maintained a strong regional footprint throughout the mid-20th century.

Walter Brewing Company produced beer and malt beverages under several regional labels. While the brewery's Pikes Peak Malt Liquor had a lengthy production history across multiple container formats, Pikes Peak Ale had a considerably shorter production window during the late 1960s. This limited run makes the ale version significantly scarcer than its malt liquor counterpart among collectors focused on Colorado regional breweries.

The can features bold, graphic typography centered around the famous 14,115-foot Colorado mountain landmark, designed to appeal to local and regional consumers across Walter's western distribution territory. Can historians and collectors document variations in the canning stamps and top lid assemblies across different production runs of Walter's canning lines.

Following decades of intense competition from national macro-breweries, Walter Brewing Company officially ceased brewing operations in Pueblo in 1975. Today, the Pikes Peak Ale can stands as a celebrated artifact from the twilight era of independent Colorado commercial brewing.
