Pilsengold Beer Flat Top Can

Pilsengold Beer Flat Top Can

Produced by the San Francisco Brewing Corp. in San Francisco, California, the Pilsengold Beer flat top can is a notable artifact of Northern California brewing history. The San Francisco Brewing Corp., which later achieved widespread regional recognition for its flagship Burgermeister brand, packaged Pilsengold in lithographed steel containers manufactured by the American Can Company, featuring the trademarked "Keglined" logo.

The visual design is anchored by bold Pilsengold typography alongside classic brewery motifs, including a prominent eagle emblem and decorative banners. The side panels incorporate the "Cool Before Serving" advisory text alongside instructional graphic panels. The can also features regulatory text of its period, including the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement and California state permit markings.

Collectors document several variations of the Pilsengold flat top that reflect subtle shifts across production runs. These differences include alterations in patent wording, permit notices, and an elusive dull gray background variant manufactured during wartime metal conservation efforts. Rooted in the rich industrial history of San Francisco's brewing district, this can remains a celebrated centerpiece for collectors of early West Coast breweriana.
