Point Bock 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Stevens Point Bock Tab Top Can

The Point Bock 12 oz tab top can is a classic piece of Midwestern breweriana issued by the Stevens Point Brewery in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Established in 1857, Stevens Point Brewery stands as one of the longest continuously operating regional breweries in the United States, commanding a dedicated following throughout the Upper Midwest.

The Point Bock label carries a long history tracing back to 1938. After a temporary hiatus during World War II, the brewery reintroduced Point Bock as an eagerly anticipated late-winter seasonal release. In Wisconsin brewing tradition, the annual arrival of bock beer was a celebrated event, often prompting enthusiasts to travel across state lines to central Wisconsin to stock up on cases.

The graphic design of this can centers on traditional bock symbolism, featuring an illustrated goat head placed prominently above the bold brand lettering. The face of the can also incorporates classic promotional text, including the tagline noting that the brew was crafted in the genuine bock tradition since 1857.

Breweriana collectors recognize known variations across seasonal production batches. These variations typically exhibit minor differences in canning plant manufacturer stamps, text positioning, and metallic paint finishes. Because Point Bock was packaged strictly as a seasonal offering rather than a year-round staple, its production runs were more limited than those of flagship lagers, securing its place as an enduring favorite among Wisconsin breweriana collectors.
