Prior Tasty Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Prior Tasty Lager Flat Top Can

The Prior Tasty Lager flat top can was produced by the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company of Norristown, Pennsylvania. Manufactured using the American Can Company's patented "Keglined" process, the can represents an important chapter in Mid-Atlantic brewing history.

Brand History

The Prior label was established through a partnership between the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company and Atlantis Importers of New York City. Positioned as an upscale European-style brew under marketing slogans like "Liquid Luxury," Prior served as Scheidt's premium flagship alongside their mainstream Valley Forge Beer and Ram's Head Ale product lines.

Can Design and Features

The can features clean mid-century graphic design with distinctive, bold typography highlighting the "Prior" title above the "Tasty Lager" brand designation. Side panels include the mandatory Norristown brewery identification statements, volume designations, and American Can Company manufacturing marks.

Variations

Variations of this can exist in breweriana collections, distinguished primarily by side-panel text adjustments. These differences include state-specific mandatory tax statements—such as Pennsylvania tax-paid verbiage—along with minor revisions to copyright text and canning patent references across manufacturing runs.

Brewery Background

Founded along Stony Creek in Norristown, the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company grew into one of the largest industrial breweries in Montgomery County. The Prior line remained a key element of the brewery's portfolio through its post-Prohibition growth and mid-century operations before the facility eventually transitioned to new ownership.
