Rahr's Beer Flat Top Can

The Legacy of Rahr's Green Bay

The Rahr's Beer flat top can represents an iconic chapter in Wisconsin's regional brewing history. Produced by the Rahr-Green Bay Brewing Corporation in Green Bay, Wisconsin, this can carries the heritage of a brewery established by German immigrant Henry Rahr that became an essential institution in the local community.

A notable piece of history surrounding the brewery involves its close connection to professional sports lore. Brewery president Henry Rahr III maintained a close friendship and working relationship with Curly Lambeau, the co-founder and longtime coach of the Green Bay Packers. This relationship helped solidify the brewery's status throughout northeastern Wisconsin, linking the Rahr's brand closely with the city's identity.

The can features classic mid-century graphic design, highlighted by prominent Rahr's script typography and traditional heritage insignia. For collectors tracking historical packaging lines, known variations exist that display subtle differences in mandatory brewery text, metallic trim accents, and canning facility markings across production runs.

Following the closure of the Green Bay plant in the mid-1960s, the brand was acquired by the Oshkosh Brewing Company, making cans bearing the original Green Bay imprint lasting artifacts of the city's mid-century brewing scene.
