Rainier Beer Flat Top Can

Sicks' Spokane Rainier Flat Top

The Rainier Beer flat top produced by Sicks' Spokane Brewery in Spokane, Washington, holds a distinguished place in Pacific Northwest breweriana. Under the leadership of brewing magnate Emil Sick, the company maintained major production hubs in both Seattle and Spokane to supply Washington, the Inland Empire, and surrounding regional markets. Cans filled at the Spokane facility are identified by their distinct mandatory text, distinguishing them from their Seattle-brewed counterparts.

The can design displays the classic red Rainier gothic script alongside the brand's heraldic trademark graphics. For breweriana specialists, Spokane mandatory cans are highly sought after due to their production subtleties. Variations exist across differing mandatory statement layouts, adjustments in metallic background colors, and state-mandated alcohol or tax statements stamped into the lids.

Spokane-issued Rainier cans gained widespread renown in the collecting community as part of the legendary Seattle wind tunnel discovery. An extensive cache of mid-century Rainier flat tops from both the Spokane and Seattle facilities was found preserved inside a decommissioned aeronautical wind tunnel. This landmark find brought significant national attention to Emil Sick's regional packaging and cemented the Spokane-labeled flat top as a celebrated centerpiece of Inland Northwest brewing heritage.
