Rainier Beer Flat Top Can

Sicks' Seattle Rainier Flat Top

Produced by Sicks' Seattle Brewing & Malting Co. in Seattle, Washington, this Rainier Beer flat top is a hallmark piece of Pacific Northwest breweriana. Following Prohibition, brewing magnate Emil Sick helped revitalize the storied Rainier brand, firmly anchoring its identity to the iconic Mount Rainier imagery and cementing the brewery as a regional industrial giant.

Design and Collector Significance

The standard graphic layout features bold red lettering paired with the silhouette of Mount Rainier set against metallic and cream backdrops. In addition to core label runs, the brewery became celebrated for producing decorative releases, most notably the Jubilee and Party series. These illustrated cans showcased regional folklore, outdoor adventures, and lively social scenes across an array of vivid metallic colors.

For breweriana enthusiasts, this flat top offers extensive depth due to multiple variations. Subtle differences exist across production runs, including shifts in corporate mandatory text, canning codes from manufacturers like the American Can Company, and metallic rim accents.

The Seattle Wind Tunnel Discovery

Rainier flat top cans occupy a legendary status in breweriana history owing to what collectors call the "Seattle wind tunnel find". A massive cache of preserved Rainier cans was uncovered inside a decommissioned local aeronautical testing facility decades after being stored away. This event sent shockwaves through the collecting community, revealing previously elusive factory stock with various scene illustrations and background colorways.

Today, the Rainier Beer flat top from Sicks' Seattle Brewing & Malting Co. remains a cornerstone collectible representing Northwest commercial art and regional brewing history.
