Rainier Extra Pale Beer Flat Top Can

Rainier Spokane Extra Pale Can

The Rainier Extra Pale Beer flat top can produced by Sicks' Spokane Brewery represents an important chapter in Pacific Northwest brewing history. While the Rainier brand is most famously tied to Seattle, industrialist Emil Sick expanded his brewing network across Washington and neighboring states. The Spokane plant served as a major regional packaging facility for the Inland Northwest market, distributing Rainier throughout Eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and western Montana.

Design and Branding

The can showcases the classic Rainier aesthetic, headlined by the prominent Rainier typography and the "Extra Pale Beer" designation. The steel can graphics feature the recognizable brand color scheme complemented by metallic trim. The mandatory brewery text on the side panel explicitly credits "Sicks' Spokane Brewery, Inc., Spokane, Wash.," distinguishing these cans from packaging produced simultaneously at the flagship Seattle facility.

Collector Notes and Variations

Spokane-issued Rainier cans are particularly notable among breweriana collectors for their distinct plant identification and lid varieties. Known variations exist across different canning runs, exhibiting slight shifts in mandatory text layout, can manufacturer markings, and lid types—ranging from branded Rainier lids to specific regional alcohol tax statements stamped directly onto the top.
