Rainier Old Stock Ale 11 Oz Zip Top Can

Rainier Old Stock Ale Zip Top

The Rainier Old Stock Ale 11 Oz Zip Top Can represents a notable era of Pacific Northwest breweriana produced by Sicks' Rainier Brewing Co. in Seattle, Washington.

Regional Sizing Tradition

One of the most defining characteristics of this can is its 11-ounce capacity. While 12-ounce containers were the standard across most of the United States, 11-ounce packaging held deep historical roots in Washington State and the broader Pacific Northwest. Driven by regional pricing structures, tax regulations, and packaging customs, local breweries like Sicks' Rainier regularly canned their staple lagers and specialty ales in 11-ounce formats.

Design and Collector Variations

The Rainier Old Stock Ale design features traditional deep green and gold motifs centered around bold brand lettering. As canning methods and mandatory labeling standards evolved, several variations appeared across production runs. Collectors have identified differences such as the presence or wording of promotional pull banners near the top rim, variations in mandatory brewery address text, and differing manufacturer lithograph markings.

Sicks' Rainier Heritage

Brewed at the historic Seattle facility in Georgetown, Rainier Old Stock Ale stood alongside the flagship lager as a premier product of the post-Repeal Northwest brewing industry. Cans carrying the Sicks' Rainier brewing designation reflect a pivotal era of the company's corporate and regional history, serving as popular centerpieces in regional breweriana collections.
