Rainier Special Export Lager Beer Cone Top Can

Rainier Special Export Cone Top

The Rainier Special Export Lager Beer Cone Top Can was produced for the Rainier Brewing Company out of San Francisco, California. Manufactured in Continental Can Company's low-profile "Cap-Sealed" format, this can represents a significant milestone in West Coast canned beer history following the repeal of Prohibition.

Rainier introduced Special Export in cans during the mid-1930s as breweries across the United States raced to adopt metal packaging. The San Francisco facility was a primary packaging hub for Rainier's expanding California market. The can design features the classic Rainier branding and bold typography, accompanied by Continental Can Company's distinctive "Cap-Sealed" side-panel text.

Among breweriana collectors, the can is recognized for its historical interest and production iterations. Collectors track variations that differ in mandatory text, such as the inclusion or wording of the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement, variations in alcohol percentage notices, and differences in seam alignment relative to the manufacturer's side panels. Because of its regional prominence and connection to California's early canning era, the Rainier Special Export cone top remains a prized piece for West Coast beer can collectors.
