Rams Head Ale 12 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can

Rams Head Ale Norristown Can

The Rams Head Ale 12 oz can from C. Schmidt & Sons represents an important transitional chapter in eastern Pennsylvania brewing history. Originally introduced by the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the Rams Head brand established itself as a regional staple alongside sister labels such as Valley Forge Beer and Prior. Following Schmidt's acquisition of the Norristown brewery, the Philadelphia-based brewing giant continued packaging the historic ale at the Norristown facility, retaining the iconic brand identity that generations of Mid-Atlantic drinkers recognized.

Graphic Identity and Heritage

The centerpiece of this can is the heritage ram's head emblem, framed prominently against a bold graphic background. While many competing breweries shifted heavily toward uniform modern branding, Schmidt preserved the classic character of the Scheidt legacy. The mandatory text crediting C. Schmidt & Sons at the Norristown, PA plant documents the era when Schmidt operated satellite facilities across Pennsylvania before consolidating its operations.

Production and Collector Variations

For breweriana enthusiasts, this can serves as a tangible record of brewery acquisitions and packaging transitions in the region. Can manufacturers produced variations featuring subtle differences in canning marks along the seam, statutory text arrangements, and facility markings. Collectors study these manufacturing differences to trace the history of production across various canning lines.

Representing the longevity of a classic regional brand through changing corporate ownership, this Norristown issue remains a sought-after piece in Pennsylvania breweriana collections.
