The Rams Head Ale flat top was produced by the Valley Forge Brewing operation (historically known as the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company) out of Norristown, Pennsylvania. Introduced to target the robust ale markets across the Mid-Atlantic and New England, Rams Head Ale became one of the brewery's staple labels alongside Valley Forge Beer and Prior Beer. During its peak distribution, the brand established an especially strong following in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Pennsylvania markets.

The can's graphic design prominently features the distinguished ram's head emblem framed by crisp lettering and traditional heraldic borders. Over its production run, the container was manufactured by major packaging companies including American Can Company, Continental Can Company, and Crown Cork & Seal. Collectors track several variations across these runs, which feature subtle differences such as manufacturer vanity markings, seam text, and changing legal or distributor disclaimers, such as the inclusion or omission of New York distributor statements.

Corporate shifts at the Norristown facility directly impacted subsequent printings of the label. After the brewery transitioned from Adam Scheidt to Valley Forge Brewing and was eventually acquired by Philadelphia-based C.
