Reading Light Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Reading Light Premium Beer Can

The Reading Light Premium Beer flat top can represents a classic piece of mid-century Pennsylvania brewing heritage. Produced by the Reading Brewing Company in Reading, Pennsylvania, the can reflects the legacy of an iconic regional brewery established in 1886 at 9th and Laurel Streets.

During the post-prohibition era and subsequent mid-century decades, the brewery updated its public identity. Moving away from earlier Pennsylvania Dutch imagery, the company modernized its marketing and rolled out Reading Premium under the prominent slogan, "The Friendly Beer for Modern People." The graphic presentation on the Light Premium flat top can features bold mid-century typography, with the stylized "Reading" nameplate paired alongside prominent "Light Premium Beer" lettering.

Major container manufacturers like the Continental Can Company produced flat tops for the brewery. Among collectors of regional cans, variations exist featuring differences in canning plant markings, minor shifts in mandatory text layout, and slight graphic adjustments across production runs.

Reading Brewing Company remained a staple of Berks County and surrounding mid-Atlantic markets for generations before ceasing independent operations in 1976. Today, this flat top can serves as an enduring artifact of eastern Pennsylvania's rich industrial brewing history.
