Red Fox Ale Cone Top Can

Largay's Red Fox Ale Cone Top

The Red Fox Ale Cone Top Can is one of the most recognized examples of mid-century New England breweriana, produced for the Largay Brewing Company of Waterbury, Connecticut. Largay Brewing built strong regional recognition throughout the Northeast, anchored by its charismatic trademark mascot: an anthropomorphic red fox carrying a serving tray filled with glasses.

Design and Manufacturing

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company under its "Cap Sealed" line, this high-profile can features vibrant graphic layout and bold typography centered around the dapper red fox illustration. The ale version is distinguished by its rich red, black, and white color scheme, making it a standout companion to Largay's lager and light beer releases. The reverse and side panels carry mandatory brewery identification along with federal regulatory text.

Variations and Collector Interest

Red Fox Ale cans remain popular centerpiece items among collectors of Connecticut breweriana and graphic animal-themed beverage containers. Multiple variations exist across production runs. These variations are distinguished by subtle differences in mandatory legal statements—such as the presence of Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) phrasing or military and export "Withdrawn Free of Tax" markings—as well as minor shifts in lithography plant codes and color shading. Because Largay operated as a regional independent brewery, these illustrated cans hold enduring historical and visual appeal.
