Red Fox Premium Beer Quart

Red Fox Premium Beer Quart

Produced by the Largay Brewing Company of Waterbury, Connecticut, the Red Fox Premium Beer quart stands as one of the most celebrated examples of mid-century New England breweriana. Largay was one of the primary post-Prohibition breweries operating in the Naugatuck Valley, and the Red Fox label served as the company's flagship line across regional markets.

The visual hallmark of the can is its distinctive branding, centered on the signature Red Fox character. Portrayed across the brewery's marketing materials—frequently as an anthropomorphic fox dressed in livery holding a tray of drinks—the mascot provided immediate brand recognition. The quart container features bold, stylized typography alongside vibrant red, white, and metallic accents designed to stand out on tavern shelves and back bars.

Collectors recognize several variations of the Red Fox quart container, which include differences in mandatory regulatory text, manufacturer markings from Continental Can Company, and subtle shifts in the layout of the fox insignia and script. While standard twelve-ounce containers for the brand were distributed widely, the thirty-two-ounce quart size is significantly harder to find in the hobby, making it a centerpiece for East Coast can collectors.

Largay's legacy remains closely intertwined with Connecticut's industrial and brewing heritage. Following the eventual closure of the Waterbury facility, memorabilia bearing the Red Fox name grew into enduring regional favorites, with this quart container remaining one of the premier items produced by the brewery.
