Red Top Beer Flat Top Can

Atlantic's Red Top Flat Top Can

The Red Top Beer flat top can produced by the Atlantic Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois, represents a notable chapter in Midwestern brewing history. While the Red Top brand originally achieved widespread fame under the Cincinnati-based Red Top Brewing Company, shifting market dynamics and industry consolidations led to the label being produced by other regional breweries, including Atlantic Brewing.

Atlantic Brewing Company operated out of its facility at Fullerton and Bosworth Avenues on Chicago's North Side. The brewery maintained an active canning operation that encompassed both proprietary brands and prominent regional acquisitions like Red Top.

For breweriana enthusiasts, the Atlantic-issued Red Top flat top is an intriguing study in brand migration and contract packaging. The label retains the recognizable Red Top typography and branding while featuring mandatory Atlantic Brewing Company Chicago text along the seam and side panels. Variations exist across production runs, showing subtle differences in canning text, mandatory notices, and can manufacturer stamps.

Because Red Top is most widely associated with Ohio brewing history, examples bearing the Atlantic Brewing Company Chicago imprint are particularly sought after by collectors specializing in Chicago canning history and mid-century Midwestern packaging.
