Red Top Extra Dry Beer Cone Top Can

Red Top Extra Dry Beer Cone Top

Produced by the Red Top Brewing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, the Red Top Extra Dry Beer cone top is a standout piece of Queen City brewing heritage. Originating from a company that built its foundation during Prohibition with malt extract and near beer before expanding into the historic John Hauck Brewery facility on Central Avenue, Red Top grew to become one of Ohio's largest independent breweries.

Design and Manufacturer Details

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, this high-profile container is recognized for its bold color blocking and prominent advertising typography. The front graphic presentation highlights the brewery's trademark red badge and the prominent slogan, "The Beer That Is Really Extra Dry." The clean metallic accents and crisp letterforms reflect mid-century industrial can lithography, tailored to draw immediate attention on retail shelves and behind taverns across the regional distribution network.

Known Variations and Collector Interest

Collectors cataloging Red Top containers recognize multiple production variations across the Extra Dry lineup. These differences appear in details such as mandatory tax statements—including examples produced with Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) designations alongside later non-IRTP releases—as well as slight shifts in side-panel brewery phrasing and canning manufacturer codes.

Before market pressures led to the eventual closure and sale of the Red Top brewing facilities, this container established itself as an essential centerpiece representing Cincinnati's storied post-Prohibition brewing landscape.
