Red White & Blue Special Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Pabst Red White & Blue Lager Can

The Red White & Blue Special Lager Beer 12 oz tab top can is a notable piece of breweriana produced by the Pabst Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Originally conceived by Pabst in 1899 as an Independence Day celebration brew, the brand became one of the brewery's most recognizable value-tier offerings, championed under slogans such as "An Honest Beer for an Honest Price."

Design and Aesthetics

Reflecting its patriotic namesake, the can's graphics center around a bold tri-color scheme of crimson red, crisp white, and navy blue. The central face features prominent brand typography, often accompanied by the traditional Pabst corporate seal and historical text noting "First Brewed in 1899." The layout frequently highlights the phrase "The Beer With The Natural American Taste" alongside references to domestic brewing ingredients.

Production & Collector Variations

As Pabst expanded nationwide distribution, the brand was packaged across several of the company's regional facilities. Collectors frequently seek out variations in mandatory brewery location lists printed along the side seam—ranging from the primary Milwaukee headquarters to satellite operations in Peoria Heights, Newark, and Los Angeles. Further distinctions across production runs include slight adjustments to text placement, metallic versus painted finishes, and minor modifications to the Pabst emblem.

Because Red White & Blue was marketed widely as a high-volume budget staple, it remains an essential piece for collectors documenting Pabst's twentieth-century brand portfolio and the broader history of American tab top can design.
