Regal Bock 12 Oz Insert Top Can

Maier Regal Bock Insert Top Can

The Regal Bock 12-ounce insert top can is a prominent West Coast breweriana artifact produced by the historic Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles, California. Known throughout Southern California for its expansive roster of regional brands brewed along Commercial Street, Maier packaged Regal Bock as a seasonal offering rather than a continuous, year-round product. Because bock beers were brewed and packaged in considerably smaller quantities than standard flagship pale lagers, surviving examples from these packaging runs are prized by collectors.

Design and Promotional Elements

The can features traditional bock aesthetic elements fused with Maier's familiar Regal branding, highlighted by bold script and classic seasonal motifs. A defining characteristic of this specific issue is the promotional caption printed on the face declaring, "NOW! NO OPENER NEEDED". This factory-applied marketing callout drew consumer attention to early self-opening can designs directly on retail shelves.

Production and Collector Interest

Fabricated from straight steel, this container represents a notable phase in beverage packaging history. Among breweriana enthusiasts, the Regal Bock insert top is recognized as one of the scarcer Maier seasonal issues. Known variations exist across production batches, characterized by subtle differences in mandatory text formatting, brewery legal markings, and manufacturer can codes along the seam. Its limited distribution and promotional graphics make it a standout piece for regional beer can collections.
