Regal Bock Flat Top Can

San Francisco Regal Bock Can

The Regal Bock flat top can originates from San Francisco, California, produced by the Regal Pale Brewing Company (formerly the Regal Amber Brewing Company) in the city's Mission District.

Brewery Heritage & Design

Regal Pale was a major regional force in Northern California's brewing landscape. While widely recognized for its flagship pale lagers and vibrant advertising, the brewery also embraced the seasonal tradition of bock beer. The can's graphics prominently feature the traditional goat emblem synonymous with bock brewing, set alongside the bold mid-century typography and regal crown motifs characteristic of the brewery's packaging.

Label Variations & Lore

Among collectors, several variations of the Regal Bock flat top are known. These differences generally stem from variations in the side seam text, changes in mandatory brewery naming that reflect the company's transition from Regal Amber to Regal Pale Brewing Company, and differing can manufacturer stamps, such as those from the American Can Company.

Adding to the can's historical lore, unrolled flat production sheets have occasionally surfaced in unexpected ways, including a well-known find where surplus sheets were repurposed as decorative paneling on vintage luggage trunks. The can stands as a classic representation of San Francisco's mid-century brewing scene.
