Regal Famous Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Associated Regal Premium Beer Can

This straight-steel tab top can represents a notable era of regional consolidation in Midwestern brewing history under the Associated Brewing Company. Originating from a brand name long recognized in American brewing traditions—famously celebrated as "lager" spelled backward—the Regal label was maintained across an expansive multi-brewery network to serve regional markets.

Multi-City Production and Variations

What makes this specific canning run notable to breweriana collectors is the mandatory statement running along the side seam. It lists four key brewing hubs across the Midwest: Chicago, Evansville, St. Paul, and South Bend. As Associated Brewing acquired and integrated facilities like Sterling Brewers in Evansville and Drewrys in South Bend, cans were stamped with varying city credits reflecting operational shifts. Known variations of the Regal label exist, differing in city combinations, mandatory phrasing, and font placement across different production runs.

Label Artwork

The label pairs traditional heraldic themes with clean mid-century branding. The white background is decorated with a repeating field pattern of miniature golden crowns. At the upper center, a crowned crest frames a detailed illustration of a seventeenth-century style cavalier figure raising a beer bottle in a toast. The brand name appears in bold, shadow-boxed block letters across a deep red banner set against an angled gold ribbon, accompanied below by the "Famous Premium Beer" subtitle and a 12-fluid-ounce volume declaration.
