Regal Pale Beer Flat Top Can

Regal Pale Flat Top History

Manufactured for the Regal Amber Brewing Company located on 20th Street in San Francisco's Mission District, the Regal Pale Beer flat top represents a prominent era in Northern California brewing. Regal Amber grew to become one of the largest brewing operations in the state, establishing Regal Pale as its signature flagship brand.

The can design showcases classic mid-century commercial artwork, highlighted by bold Regal Pale typography set against a stylized crest and oval cartouche. Produced using the American Can Company's "Keglined" process, the can was featured extensively in West Coast marketing pushes. The brewery backed the label with prominent regional advertising campaigns, including the well-known slogan, "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Furious".

For collectors, this can is particularly notable for its graphic evolution. Several variations exist across its production history, distinguished by subtle differences in metallic border finishes—including versions featuring copper trim—as well as regulatory label adjustments during the transition from Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statements to non-IRTP text. Minor layout shifts in the central emblem and background scrollwork also differentiate separate manufacturing batches, making it a staple piece of San Francisco breweriana.
