Regal Select Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Maier Regal Select Tab Top Can

Produced by the historic Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles, California, the Regal Select Beer 12 oz tab top can stands as an emblem of mid-century West Coast commercial brewing. Situated on Commercial Street in downtown Los Angeles, Maier operated as one of Southern California's major regional breweries, sustaining high-volume distribution through value-focused brands designed to compete against national brewing giants.

Packaging and Promotional Features

Regal Select was marketed aggressively across California and neighboring Western retail channels, establishing a major presence in grocery beverage aisles. The container's graphic layout utilized heraldic imagery, an ornate crest, and clean typography, providing the economy label with an upscale appearance on store shelves.

A notable hallmark of Regal Select packaging was the inclusion of factory-applied promotional pricing banners printed directly onto the body of the can. These integral marketing graphics highlighted retail multi-pack specials—such as six-pack pricing printed right on the label face—serving as an eye-catching tool to attract budget-conscious supermarket shoppers.

Manufacturing and Variations

Fabricated with straight-steel construction, these cans were manufactured in partnership with major container producers of the era, including the National Can Company and the American Can Company.

For breweriana enthusiasts, the label offers several known variations. These variations include differences in mandatory side-panel legal statements, canning company trademarks and plant codes, seam construction types, and differing promotional price badges displayed across the main face. As an enduring artifact of Los Angeles' industrial brewing heritage, this Regal Select release remains an essential piece for collectors of California brewery history.
