Regal Select Genuine Draft 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Regal Select 16 Oz Draft Maier Can

The Regal Select Genuine Draft 16 Oz Tab Top Can represents a notable chapter in West Coast brewing history, tying together two prominent California brewing traditions. The Regal brand originally achieved widespread fame under San Francisco's Regal Amber / Regal Pale Brewing Company. Following the closure of that facility, the brand name was acquired by Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles, California, which incorporated Regal Select into its extensive regional lineup.

Brewery Context

Operating out of downtown Los Angeles, Maier Brewing Company was one of Southern California's long-standing industrial breweries. Under the leadership of industrialist Paul Kalmanovitz, Maier became famous for high-volume regional brands, contract packaging, and value-oriented labels alongside its flagship Brew 102. Producing Regal Select Genuine Draft in the larger 16-ounce pint format allowed the brewery to cater to the popular demand for draft-style lager packaging in economy sizes across Western retail markets.

Design and Collector Notes

The 16-ounce container features Regal's classic heraldic crest, bold branding, and prominent draft labeling styled for shelf visibility. Within breweriana collecting circles, this can is documented with variations that reflect running changes during Maier's manufacturing operations. These differences generally involve variations in statutory canning text, factory rim markings, and promotional retail price callouts on the label. Its West Coast origin and regional packaging history make it a standard entry in Maier and California brand collections.
