Regal Select Light Beer Tab Top

The Regal Select Light Beer 12-ounce can was produced by the Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles, California. Originally established as a prominent brand under San Francisco's Regal Pale Brewing Company, the Regal label found an extended production life under Maier, a major player in Southern California's mid-century brewing landscape.

Among breweriana collectors, this can is celebrated for its distinctive commercial lithography, which often reflected the intense retail price competition among West Coast regional brewers. Maier frequently integrated retail promotions directly into the can's graphic design, featuring prominent price badges such as "6 for 99¢" and "6 for $1.09". Promotional versions of the label also featured prominent callouts highlighting modern convenience, such as "NOW! No Opener Needed" emblazoned across the body.

Manufactured by packaging firms such as National Can Company and American Can Company, the Regal Select can was distributed widely throughout California grocery chains. Variations exist across different production runs, exhibiting subtle differences in pricing badges, manufacturer can codes, mandatory tax and brewery wording, and minor layout modifications around the central crest. As an artifact of Maier's high-volume regional distribution, it remains a notable piece of California brewing history.
