Regal Select Light Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Regal Select 16 Oz Can by General

The Regal Select Light Beer 16-ounce tab top can stands as an iconic artifact of West Coast brewing heritage, carrying the legacy of San Francisco's historic brewing landscape into regional supermarkets and retail distribution. Following the closure of the original Regal Pale Brewing Company, the brand was produced and distributed under the General Brewing Corporation banner in San Francisco, California.

During an era of regional brewery expansion and intense supermarket competition, General Brewing packaged Regal Select in the larger half-quart, one-pint format to cater to consumers seeking larger single-serving containers. The 16-ounce can features prominent Regal branding across two mirrored display faces, characterized by bold lettering identifying the "Light Beer" designation alongside traditional crest and script graphics. Promotional releases and regional distributions of the label frequently highlighted the brand's well-known marketing slogan, declaring it "One of America's Two Great Beers".

Because General Brewing maintained multiple production and packaging facilities across the Pacific Coast—including operations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Vancouver, Washington—the packaging reflects the company's multi-plant footprint. Collector interest often centers on the mandatory brewery statements printed along the side panels and lid markings. Known variations exist featuring differing combinations of listed cities, distinct mandatory text arrangements, state-specific disclosures, and subtle differences in canning press marks.

For breweriana enthusiasts focused on California brewing history and oversized tall cans, this pint-sized container offers a vivid look into General Brewing Corporation's mid-century packaging evolution and regional market presence.
