Renner Premium Beer Cone Top Can

Renner Premium Beer Cone Top

The Renner Premium Beer cone top can represents a notable era of regional brewing from Youngstown, Ohio. Produced by The Renner Co., this container is a standout piece of packaging from the historic industrial landscape of the Mahoning Valley.

Brewery Heritage and Significance

George J. Renner Jr. established a prominent brewing footprint in Youngstown along Pike Street overlooking the Mahoning River, developing the business into one of eastern Ohio's most recognizable local breweries. Following the repeal of Prohibition, Renner began canning several of its flagship beverages. Renner Premium Beer stood as a central offering designed to cater to the working-class communities of Youngstown and surrounding regional markets.

Packaging and Design

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, this 12-ounce high-profile container displays mid-century graphics emphasizing the traditional Renner identity. The face of the can features bold "Renner Premium Beer" branding, complemented by the brewery's Youngstown identification on the mandatory panels.

Variations

Collectors recognize multiple variations across different production runs of this can. These variations primarily feature subtle discrepancies in side-panel mandatory text, brewery name styling, and the presence or absence of federal tax statements, reflecting packaging updates and shifting regulatory guidelines throughout the brewery's production timeline.

Today, Renner cans remain foundational pieces in Ohio breweriana, so much so that regional collector groups—such as local chapters of the Brewery Collectibles Club of America—have drawn their names and identities directly from Renner's historic brands.
