Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer 12 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can

Rheingold Extra Dry 12 Oz Can

The Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer 12 Oz Zip/Tab Top Can represents a key era of Mid-Atlantic brewing history associated with Rheingold's operations in Orange, New Jersey. The Orange facility became an integral regional packaging hub for the company after Liebmann Breweries expanded beyond its Brooklyn roots by acquiring the former John F. Trommer brewing plant.

During its peak market presence, Rheingold was a dominant regional powerhouse, commanding substantial market share across the New York and New Jersey metropolitan areas. The brand achieved massive public recognition through high-profile marketing campaigns, including the long-running Miss Rheingold contest—one of the largest electoral events in the country behind the U.S. presidential race—and early broadcast sponsorships for the New York Mets.

The can face features the iconic flowing Rheingold script, the traditional brewery crest, and the bold "Extra Dry Lager Beer" typography, with side mandatory text designating the Orange, New Jersey brewing origin. Among breweriana enthusiasts, known variations of this label exist, showcasing subtle differences in canning seam text, plant listing arrangements, and lid stampings. Cans bearing the Orange mandatory remain prized historic artifacts documenting the post-war industrial era of New Jersey brewing.
