Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer 7 Oz Tab Top Can

Rheingold Extra Dry 7 oz Tab Top

Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer in the 7-ounce format represents a classic era of East Coast brewing history. Produced by Rheingold Breweries of New York, New York, this compact "pony" size container served as a smaller alternative to standard twelve-ounce packaging.

Background and Heritage

Originally established by the Liebmann family in Brooklyn, Rheingold grew into one of the most dominant regional brewing powerhouses in the United States. At the height of its popularity, the brewery commanded over a third of the New York beer market. The Extra Dry label gained massive public recognition through pervasive regional marketing campaigns, including the famous annual Miss Rheingold pageants and ubiquitous metropolitan advertising.

Label and Presentation

The container showcases the familiar Rheingold aesthetic that was a staple across New York neighborhood bars and retail shelves. Central to the presentation is the prominent Rheingold script alongside the Extra Dry designation, accented with the brand's heraldic crest and classic red, white, and gold coloring. The 7-ounce dimensions feature a proportionally scaled version of the full-size brand layout, accommodating mandatory federal and state brewing notices along the seam panels.

Collector Notes

Smaller seven-ounce containers from major northeastern breweries occupy a popular niche among can collectors. Variations exist across manufacturing runs, showing minor differences in canning plant markings, metal composition, and brewery location text reflecting operations in New York as well as secondary packaging facilities such as Orange, New Jersey.
