Starting in 1940, Liebmann Breweries ran the annual Miss Rheingold contest, which evolved into a nationwide cultural phenomenon. Customers cast millions of paper ballots at local taverns, bodegas, and grocery stores to elect the next face of the brand. The election grew to be so popular that voter turnout was famously described as rivaling the United States presidential elections.

To promote the campaign, Liebmann Breweries issued special commemorative flat top cans displaying lithographed portraits of individual finalists. Beverly Christensen was selected as one of the featured candidates competing for the title of Miss Rheingold 1957.
