Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Orange NJ Rheingold Extra Dry

The Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer flat top can bearing the Orange, New Jersey mandatory statement is a key artifact from Liebmann Breweries' major mid-century expansion. To meet surging demand throughout the greater New York and New Jersey metropolitan areas, Liebmann Breweries acquired the former John F. Trommer brewery in Orange, putting the facility into service to package their flagship brand alongside their primary Brooklyn operations.

Labeling and Branding

The can showcases the classic Rheingold aesthetic, featuring the distinctive script logo, crisp red-and-white color palette, and the brewery's trademark heraldic crest. Prominently integrated into the side panel design is the famous marketing line, "My beer is Rheingold—the dry beer!" This slogan was central to the company's aggressive advertising campaigns, which included high-profile tie-ins like the annual Miss Rheingold contest that generated millions of public votes across the region.

Collector Notes and Variations

Among breweriana collectors, cans explicitly attributing production to the Orange, New Jersey location are particularly sought after to distinguish local packaging history from the brand's New York runs. Advanced collectors recognize several variations of the Orange flat top, featuring minor shifts in seam text, mandatory legal notices, and differences in canning company identification marks. In addition, select production batches featured decorated vanity lids carrying promotional brand text. This container remains an iconic representation of the height of East Coast regional brewing before mass industry consolidation.
