Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer Flat Top Can

New York's Classic Rheingold Can

Produced by Liebmann Breweries in New York, New York, the Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer flat top represents an iconic fixture of mid-century metropolitan breweriana. During the peak of Liebmann's brewing operations, Rheingold reigned as a dominant force across the regional market, commanding over a third of all beer sales throughout the New York metropolitan area.

The label achieved widespread cultural fame through prominent advertising campaigns, including the celebrated annual Miss Rheingold election—which drew millions of public ballots each year—and the ubiquitous slogan, "My beer is Rheingold, the dry beer". Decades later, Rheingold containers entered modern urban lore when discarded cans were uncovered sealed inside structural steel columns during recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site, originally placed there by ironworkers during the towers' construction.

This container features Rheingold's signature heraldic crest, classic script branding, and the prominent Extra Dry banner. Notably, this particular issue bears a tax-exempt statement noting that the contents were withdrawn free of internal revenue tax, a mandatory designation applied to cans produced for export or distribution to military installations.

Across production runs, collectors document differences in mandatory address wording, tax-exempt statements, typography styling, and decorative vanity lids.
