Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Iconic New York Flat Top Can

Produced by Liebmann Breweries in New York, NY, the Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer flat top represents a defining era of metropolitan brewing dominance. During the peak of Liebmann Breweries' operations, the Rheingold label captured over a third of the New York market, heavily driven by innovative regional marketing and widespread distribution.

For breweriana collectors, the can remains a standout centerpiece due to its classic mid-century graphic design. The front display is anchored by the bold Rheingold script typography alongside the Extra Dry banner. Certain production runs were distinguished by specialized woodgrain-patterned vanity lids, creating an aesthetic deeply appreciated in collector circles.

Over the course of its production, the can was issued with various graphic and textual variations. Known variations include minor changes in typography—such as the short and long tail on the primary "R"—as well as differences in brewery address text and regulatory tax notices, including Internal Revenue Tax Paid designations and tax-exempt export versions. The brewery also famously linked its packaging to the annual Miss Rheingold election, occasionally printing candidates directly onto specialized lithographed cans.

Liebmann Breweries' strong cultural footprint cemented this flat top can as an enduring artifact of New York's rich brewing heritage.
