Rheingold Extra Dry Lager Beer Flat Top Can

New York's Classic Rheingold Can

Produced by Liebmann Breweries, Inc. in New York, NY, this flat top container represents a defining artifact of mid-century East Coast brewing history. At the height of Liebmann's operations in Brooklyn, Rheingold dominated regional sales, commanding over one-third of the beer market across the New York metropolitan area.

The label gained widespread prominence through high-profile promotional campaigns, most notably the famous annual Miss Rheingold elections and the widely broadcast slogan, "My beer is Rheingold, the dry beer". As the flagship packaging of the Liebmann portfolio, the Extra Dry can became deeply intertwined with local working-class culture.

Decades later, the can entered regional lore when recovery crews at the World Trade Center site discovered discarded containers preserved inside structural steel columns, where ironworkers had placed them during the towers' original assembly.

For breweriana enthusiasts, this can is recognized for its heraldic crest, bold branding, and prominent "Extra Dry" typography. Variations exist across production runs, featuring subtle differences in brewery mandatory text, Internal Revenue tax statements, and vanity lids displaying decorative motifs such as simulated woodgrain graphics.
