Rolling Rock Premium Beer 8 Oz Tab Top Can

Rolling Rock 8 Oz Latrobe Tab Top

Produced by Latrobe Brewing Company in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, the 8-ounce Rolling Rock Premium Beer tab top can represents a classic smaller-format offering from one of the most recognizable regional breweries in the United States. While standard twelve-ounce cans dominated shelves, eight-ounce cans—often called "pony" cans—mirrored the brand's legendary seven-ounce pony bottles.

Visual Elements and Iconography

The can showcases the signature green background that defined the Rolling Rock brand identity. Prominently featured on the face is the horse head framed inside a white horseshoe, an emblem deeply tied to the Laurel Highlands region where the brewery operated.

On the reverse side, the can features the famous pledge highlighting the brewery's use of mountain spring water and glass-lined tanks. Anchoring the bottom of this text is the mysterious "33," an iconic numeral that has generated decades of collector lore and speculation regarding its true origin.

Collector Details and Variations

Among breweriana collectors, this eight-ounce format is prized for its compact size and vibrant graphic layout. Variations in mandatory brewery phrasing, seam construction, and text arrangement exist across different production runs from the Latrobe plant. These distinct manufacturing variations make the can a popular target for collectors building out complete Pennsylvania brewery sets.
