Royal Award Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Royal Award Lager Beer Can

The Royal Award Lager Beer Flat Top Can was produced by the Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles, California. Maier was widely recognized in the regional brewing landscape for its prolific output of proprietary labels, private-label brands, and contract-brewed cans distributed across California and neighboring Western markets.

Label Design and Visual Identity

Emphasizing a stately theme, the label features heraldic crest motifs, crown imagery, and classic scrollwork framing the "Royal Award" title. The presentation was designed to project a premium aesthetic, complemented by clean typography proclaiming "Lager Beer" and highlighting the use of choicest brewing ingredients.

Packaging Features and Variations

Among breweriana collectors, this can is particularly notable for reflecting packaging changes in the canning industry. Variations exist in its construction, including versions manufactured with an "Easy Opening Aluminum Soft Top" end alongside standard steel lids. These variations document the transitional period when can manufacturers integrated softer aluminum tops to facilitate easier opening with churchkeys just before self-opening pull tabs became the industry standard.

Because Maier produced an extensive array of regional brands, the Royal Award flat top remains an interesting and representative artifact of mid-twentieth-century Los Angeles brewing history.
