Ruppert Knick. New York's Beer Small Can

Ruppert's Classic New York Beer

Produced by the famous Jacob Ruppert brewery in Manhattan's Yorkville neighborhood, the small 7-ounce Knickerbocker can—widely known among collectors as the "Little Knick"—represents a celebrated chapter in mid-century East Coast brewing history.

Jacob Ruppert was one of New York City's foremost brewing empires. Beyond his brewing empire, brewery president Colonel Jacob Ruppert gained widespread national fame as the legendary owner of the New York Yankees, purchasing Babe Ruth and building the original Yankee Stadium. Capitalizing on this deep New York presence, the brewery promoted its flagship Knickerbocker label heavily across the metropolitan area, proudly presenting it as "New York's Beer."

The seven-ounce format was marketed as an ideal serving size that could be consumed quickly before warming up, making it a favorite at ballparks, picnics, and tavern gatherings. The can face features the iconic Father Knickerbocker visual identity and distinct typography that highlighted local civic pride.

Over the course of its run, cans were produced by manufacturers such as the National Can Company, and collectors note subtle variations in label typography, mandatory text placement, and rim composition. As an artifact of Manhattan's once-booming industrial brewing district, this compact can holds an enduring spot in the history of metropolitan breweriana.
