Ruppert Knickerbocker Bock 12 Oz Zip Top Can

New York's Historic Bock Can

Produced by the storied Jacob Ruppert Brewery of New York City, the Ruppert Knickerbocker Bock 12 oz zip top can represents a classic piece of mid-century metropolitan brewing history. Jacob Ruppert was once among the largest brewing dynasties in the United States, famously helmed by Colonel Jacob Ruppert—the prominent owner of the New York Yankees who built Yankee Stadium and acquired Babe Ruth—who made Knickerbocker the firm's premier flagship line.

While standard Ruppert Knickerbocker lager enjoyed wide distribution across multiple container formats, seasonal bock releases were packaged in considerably smaller runs. Bock beer was traditionally brewed for early spring release, creating a much shorter production window for these specialty cans compared to year-round flagship offerings. Because of this limited distribution window, the zip top version of Knickerbocker Bock is widely pursued by East Coast breweriana collectors.

The can's graphics highlight the classic Knickerbocker imagery alongside seasonal bock motifs and the brewery's distinctive corporate markings. Variations exist among surviving cans, reflecting subtle differences in mandatory text and brewery city notations on the side panels. With the closure of Jacob Ruppert's landmark Manhattan operations in the mid-1960s, this can stands among the final generation of bock containers filled at the historic Yorkville facility before the brand transitioned to other regional producers.
