Salute Brand Lager Beer Cone Top Can

Salute Brand Lager Beer Cone Top

The Salute Brand Lager Beer cone top can represents a notable chapter in West Coast brewing history. Produced by the Rainier Brewing Company at its facility in San Francisco, California, this container was packaged specifically for Terminal Liquors, a San Francisco distributor.

Manufacturing and Design

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, the container features low-profile Cap-Sealed construction. The visual design centers on prominent "Salute" branding framed by mandatory regulatory text of the era, including the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement.

Documented Variations

Collectors recognize distinct production variations of the Salute Lager cone top:

• Alcohol Content Declarations: Versions exist bearing mandatory state-level alcohol statements, including text specifying an alcohol content not over 4% by weight (nor over 5% by volume).
• Overstamped Tax Statements: A notable variation includes cans originally fabricated with export markings reading "Withdrawn Free of Internal Revenue" that had that statement factory-blacked out and replaced with a stamped IRTP notice to authorize domestic sale.
• Label Formats: Documented examples encompass both streamlined, typography-focused designs and versions incorporating additional graphic label artwork.

Owing to its regional distribution and connection to Rainier's San Francisco contract packaging operations, the Salute Brand Lager Beer cone top is a prominent item in vintage Western breweriana collections.
