Savoy Special Beer Flat Top Can

Savoy Special Flat Top Can

The Savoy Special Beer Flat Top Can represents a notable mid-century Midwestern label associated with the Savoy Brewing Company of Davenport, Iowa. During the 1950s, the Savoy name served as an alternate trade name used by the Uchtorff Brewing Company, which operated out of the historic Davenport brewing facility that had previously housed operations such as Blackhawk Brewing and Zoller Brewing.

Production and Regional Heritage

Davenport had an extensive brewing heritage along the Mississippi River, hosting numerous breweries across several decades. The Savoy Special label was produced across different Midwestern markets, including releases associated with Chicago, Illinois. Among known variations of the brand, cans bearing the Davenport, Iowa mandatory are widely recognized by collectors as significantly more elusive than their metropolitan counterparts due to the brief operating lifespan of the local brewing operation.

Graphic Design and Collector Significance

The Savoy Special design features bold mid-century typography and clean layout elements that highlight the brand name across the face of the can. The mandatory text along the seam identifies Savoy Brewing Co. of Davenport, Iowa, distinguishing it from other regional iterations. Because the Davenport brewery operated under this trade name for only a short span of years, authentic surviving examples remain highly prized by collectors of Iowa breweriana and mid-century flat top cans.
