Schaefer 1924's 40th Reunion Can

Schaefer 1924 40th Reunion Can

The Schaefer 1924's 40th Reunion Can is a notable commemorative piece produced by the F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company of New York, New York. Unlike standard commercial releases distributed to retail shelves, this can was specially commissioned for the 40th class reunion festivities of Princeton University's graduating class of 1924, held in 1964.

Historical Context & Collegiate Ties

The direct connection between the brewery and Princeton University centers on Rudolph J. Schaefer Jr., who served as president of the F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company and was himself a proud alumnus of the Princeton Class of 1924. Because of his leadership and deep ties to alma mater traditions, Schaefer supplied custom commemorative beer cans for major campus reunions. These reunion cans became an integral part of Princeton’s celebrated alumni gatherings and the traditional P-rade.

Can Design & Collectibility

The exterior graphics prominently honor the milestone gathering, blending classic Schaefer company insignia with distinct reunion numerals and class motifs. Special-event cans from this era were produced in relatively limited quantities compared to regular commercial production runs, making commemorative university cans a dedicated specialty within breweriana collecting. Collectors value the can as both an authentic artifact of mid-century American brewing history and a classic example of Ivy League collegiate memorabilia. Minor variations in text placement and can manufacturer stamps exist across surviving examples.
