Schaefer Beer Pint Can

Schaefer One Pint Beer Can

The Schaefer Beer Pint Can, produced for the F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company of New York, NY, stands as a notable 16-ounce release from one of the most prominent brewing names in the American Northeast. Positioned as "America's Oldest Lager Beer"—a hallmark tagline celebrating the brewery's founding by Frederick and Maximilian Schaefer in 1842—the one-pint (half-quart) format provided consumers with an extended serving compared to the standard twelve-ounce packaging.

Graphic Features and Brand Presentation

The face of the can features Schaefer’s classic mid-century visual identity, distinguished by bold lettering, the company crest, and signature red, gold, and white coloration. The 16-ounce container highlighted the increased capacity directly on the label, often referencing the "One Pint" or "Half Quart" volume across the top rim or lower mandatory panel.

Labeling Variations and Collector Interest

Known variations exist across different manufacturing runs, reflecting adjustments in state tax notices, mandatory brewery address text, and subtle layout alterations in the decorative banners and typography. Because F. & M. Schaefer operated substantial facilities across New York—including its landmark Brooklyn facility along the East River—cans designated with the New York, NY address are central artifacts documenting the brewery's deep metropolitan heritage. Among breweriana enthusiasts, these pint-sized flat tops remain popular display pieces due to their imposing taller profile when displayed alongside standard 12-ounce cans.
