Scheidt's Valley Forge Beer Flat Top Can

Scheidt's Valley Forge Beer Can

The Scheidt's Valley Forge Beer Flat Top Can represents the flagship product line of the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company, based in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Named in honor of the nearby historic Revolutionary War encampment at Valley Forge, the brand grew to become one of the most prominent regional labels distributed throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, and the Washington, D.C. markets.

Production & Collector History

Manufactured primarily in partnership with the American Can Company using the trademark "Keglined" canning process, the can showcases the classic Valley Forge label graphics and typography. The Adam Scheidt facility was a significant regional operation, featuring on-site rail spurs with refrigerated cars to distribute canned and bottled products up and down the East Coast.

Variations

Collectors recognize several distinct variations across production runs. Earlier editions carry mandatory Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statements along with side-panel Opening Instructions, while subsequent releases phased out instructional labeling in favor of cleaner commercial artwork. Additional variations feature different state-mandated distributor notices along the seam—most notably New York distributor permit text—as well as minor shifts in manufacturer patent markings and corporate naming preceding the brewery's acquisition by C. Schmidt & Sons.
