Scheidt's Valley Forge Beer Flat Top Can

Adam Scheidt's Valley Forge Beer

The Scheidt's Valley Forge Beer flat top can is a classic piece of mid-century mid-Atlantic breweriana, produced by the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company of Norristown, Pennsylvania. Located along Stony Creek, the brewery named this flagship brand after the historic Revolutionary War encampment situated just miles from the plant.

Graphic Design and Packaging

The can features the prominent Valley Forge brand identity, accented with bold typography, traditional crest emblems, and star motifs. Scheidt relied on major container manufacturers such as the American Can Company, with earlier versions displaying the recognizable "Keglined" oval marking along the seam. The brand had a significant distribution footprint, circulating heavily throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and New York.

Known Variations

Collectors recognize several variations produced over the course of the label's run:

• State Mandatory Markings: Different issues feature variations in state-mandated text, including versions with New York distributor and licensing details beneath the star emblem or along the seam.
• Reverse Panels: Production spans both opening instruction panel layouts and later dual-faced advertising designs.
• Manufacturer Details: Markings differ according to can manufacturing plants and trademark placements along the seam line.

Historical Context
