Scheidt's Valley Forge Bock Flat Top Can

Valley Forge Bock Flat Top Can

The Scheidt's Valley Forge Bock flat top can represents one of the storied seasonal releases from the Adam Scheidt Brewing Company of Norristown, Pennsylvania. Located along Stony Creek, the Adam Scheidt brewery was a prominent regional producer in the greater Philadelphia area, celebrated for its flagship Valley Forge line.

While many regional American breweries produced bock beers strictly for short spring runs and favored draft or bottled distribution, Adam Scheidt was among the notable operations that packaged seasonal bock in metal cans. Bock cans from this era are particularly prized by breweriana collectors because seasonal brews were produced in much smaller volumes compared to standard lagers or cream ales.

The graphic design of the Valley Forge Bock can showcases traditional motifs associated with seasonal bock offerings, incorporating the classic goat symbol of German bock brewing traditions alongside the recognizable Valley Forge branding. Collectors track various variations across production runs, featuring differences such as alternative lettering colors across the brand name, varied side panel text detailing brewery operations, and distinct state tax lids.

The Adam Scheidt facility continued producing its celebrated Valley Forge labels through various eras of mid-century brewing before corporate reorganizations and acquisitions altered the plant's production. Today, the Valley Forge Bock flat top stands as a quintessential artifact of Pennsylvania brewing history and mid-twentieth-century package design.
