Schell's Hunter Special Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Schell's Hunter Special Tab Top

Issued by the August Schell Brewing Company of New Ulm, Minnesota, the Schell's Hunter Special Beer can stands out in Midwest breweriana for its illustrated outdoor motif. August Schell Brewing Company—one of America's oldest family-owned breweries—frequently celebrated regional culture, sporting traditions, and wildlife through specialized packaging.

The artwork on this can presents a humorous narrative scene geared toward sportsmen. The graphic depicts a hunter asleep against a tree with his firearm resting beside him, while his hunting dog looks on and a pheasant perches nearby completely unnoticed. Rendered with colorful detail against a metallic backdrop, the design reflects a lighthearted appreciation for Minnesota's upland bird hunting culture.

Schell's distributed this label during the tab top era as a regional offering. The graphic composition wraps around the body to showcase the scenic woodland elements and wildlife illustration. Known variations exist across production runs, displaying subtle differences in mandatory brewer text, statutory alcohol content statements, and lid specifications.

Because of its intersection of wildlife illustration, regional brewery heritage, and sporting Americana, the Schell's Hunter Special can remains a sought-after piece for enthusiasts of outdoor-themed breweriana.
