Schlitz Beer 10 Oz Tab Top Can

Schlitz 10 Oz Longview Tab Top

Produced by the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company at its Longview, Texas facility, this 10-ounce tab top can highlights the regional packaging history of one of America's major mid-century brewing giants. Schlitz established the Longview brewery to supply growing markets across Texas and the greater South, eventually adding dedicated canning lines to manage regional packaging demands.

While the 12-ounce size was the standard container across the United States, 10-ounce cans enjoyed notable popularity in southern retail distribution. The label carries the classic Schlitz visual identity, presenting the traditional red-and-white color scheme, signature script logo, and heritage brewery motifs adapted to the 10-ounce proportions.

The mandatory brewery text on this container specifically identifies the Longview, Texas location. For collectors focusing on branch-plant releases, factory identifiers—such as plant indicator dots, text alignments, and specific factory markings within the brewery list—distinguish Longview output from cans packaged at other Jos. Schlitz facilities.

Various manufacturing variations exist across production runs of this can. These differences include alterations in the mandatory city listing, subtle layout adjustments in the graphic trim, and transitions in metal stock. Representing East Texas brewing operations and mid-century multi-plant distribution, this container remains a notable subject of study for branch-plant breweriana enthusiasts.
