Schlitz Beer 11 Oz Tab Top Can

Schlitz 11 Oz Longview Tab Top

The Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company 11-ounce tab top can produced at the Longview, Texas facility represents a distinctive chapter in American breweriana. While 12-ounce containers served as the national standard, 11-ounce cans were frequently utilized in Texas and surrounding southwestern markets. National brewers often adopted this specific volume to accommodate regional retail pricing structures and state distribution preferences.

Schlitz established its Longview brewing facility to streamline supply lines across the South and Southwest. Cans featuring the Longview mandatory brewery text reflect this period of major industrial decentralization, when leading national brands built modern regional hubs outside their traditional Midwestern manufacturing bases.

The exterior presentation features the quintessential Schlitz aesthetic, anchored by the iconic cursive script logo and the historic slogan, "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous." The graphics adhere to the brand's classic color palette, heraldic crest, and clean metallic finishes. For collectors focusing on regional variations and specialized sizes, this 11-ounce issue demonstrates how national brands tailored their packaging to local markets.

Variations of this can exist, with differences found in the mandatory brewery city listings, lid stampings, and minor layout adjustments in the side panel consumer notices. Because 11-ounce cans saw more restricted geographic distribution than standard sizes, examples sourced from the Longview plant remain a sought-after focus for regional collectors and Schlitz brand historians.
