Schlitz Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Schlitz Memphis Production Run

The Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company produced this 12-ounce container through its high-capacity brewing and packaging plant on Raines Road in Memphis, Tennessee. Built during a period of nationwide operational expansion, the Memphis facility served as a primary regional manufacturing and canning hub for the company's southern distribution network.

Plant Identification and Graphics

During this multi-plant era, Schlitz canned beer across several facilities nationwide, including Milwaukee, Tampa, Longview, Los Angeles, Winston-Salem, and Memphis. Rather than printing distinct label layouts for every individual plant, the company utilized a standardized multi-city brewery roster on the side panel. Cans filled at the Tennessee plant are distinguished by a small plant indicator dot printed directly above or adjacent to "Memphis, TN" in the city listing.

The exterior design features traditional Schlitz branding, centered on the belted globe trademark and the flowing cursive Schlitz script. The label prominently showcases the company's historic slogan, "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous," alongside standard volume disclosures and mandatory brewery text.

Manufacturing and Variations

Fabrication of these cans was handled by major container suppliers, including Reynolds Aluminum and American Can Company. Variations exist across production runs, featuring differences in side-panel typography, container manufacturer marks, mandatory layout spacing, and the placement of recycling emblems.
